It might get fixed with one of the next Firefox versions (3.0.x).

- Secure login improves the Security of your passwords - see Security.

see Password Manager
Why is the login dialog for my router/webhosting/another administration website not automatically submitted?
There are two types of login dialogs:
- Login forms embedded into webpages => Form-based login
- Login dialogs popping up before the webpage is shown => Basic access authentication
Secure Login only handles form-based login dialogs, while Basic access authentication dialogs are handled by Firefox Password Manager.
There is another Firefox add-on called AutoAuth which allows you to automatically submit those dialogs.
